Vilma Seppälä
WHO
Vilma Seppälä, 32 years, starting my studies as natural recources producer. Living in Turku, doing art in it’s many forms and active member of TRU, Turun rullalautailijat RY.
MEMORY LANE
How and when did you get involved with skateboarding?
First memories are from CKY movies and Jackass.
Ever been in a skategang?
In 2013 we started this gang called Lasten_osasto that started as a joke but we have managed to do lots of cool stuff and we're still going strong! We've also been managing some rad competitions and happenings.
STYLE
What kind of spots do you prefer?
Haha, I don’t skate but as long as there is a chance to have a few beers and good times you can count me in. DIYs are cool. Building is fun.
PHILOSOPHY
How has skateboarding changed the way you perceive the world?
That you belong in a community, finding friends has always been easy through skateboarding.
Has skateboarding affected the way you make music or other things?
Most of the happenings I manage and art I do are skateboarding related. For example we used to do this VHS8 club for two years with Carli Broberg, it was a lot of fun. And we had this crazy project to build a miniature UJP from clay with Saku Martikainen, haha!
ART
What music have you discovered through skateboarding?
Plenty. For the start big thanks to THPS soundtracks. Last ones that hit hard were Viagra Boys in Dead Dave's part in Heroin's Earth Goblin and Black Mountain (went to 8Raita straight away and bought the vinyl) in Samuli’s part in Tikari’s Roast.
Who are the skaters/musicians you look up to?
My beloved friends of course, and my boyfriend Robert. They make my days brighter with their shenanigans.
Favorite skateboard graphics of all time?
It's way too hard to choose an all time favourite. Latest I really fancied was Windmills Fungi-graphics by Arsi Keva. And of course I love our own lasten_osasto graphics!
Favorite skate video or part of all time?
HEALTH
Beverage of choice?
Fontana's tomato juice. I drink approximately 150 liters per year. I admit being a huge beer nerd so I’m happy to enjoy a good Imperial stout or lambic once in a while. I usually carry a glass with me. Also a huge fan of Värska.
Final words of wisdom or motivation for the young ones:
Stay active and be kind. Build. Collect your trash.
